SpectatorI had bloating, gas, and burping issues when I drank carbonated beverages.

SpectatorWhat can we do to change all this? I think it has already started with Pink Fatigue. Everyone knows someone who is fighting or has fought cancer. We need to demand more money be spent on researching all cancers, and that the Pink Brigade needs to step up and share the wealth, so to speak. Why should only breast cancer patients be the focus when there are so many other cancers to fight? Lung cancer, liver cancer, bile duct cancer, pancreatic cancer : these aren’t sexy cancers but they are very deadly and thousands die from them every year.
I’d like to point out that you can live without a breast, but you can’t live without a liver.
I am grateful to the American Cancer Society and their sponsorship of Relay for Life because they are the ones looking into all cancers.

SpectatorThe arrogance of the Susan B Komen people is ridiculous. They seem to believe that their foundation and their cancer is so much more worthy than any other foundation or cancer. One has to wonder how much money raised goes to breast cancer research and how much goes to simply perpetuate the foundation – aka “operating expenses”.
I’d say that breast cancer, with an 89% remission rate, is virtually cured. Thanks be to God! It’s probably as good as it’s going to get. I’m very happy that people who get breast cancer usually live to tell about it. I’m also very sad that people with other sorts of cancers don’t live to tell about it, and get very little attention.

SpectatorI am so sorry to hear of your mom’s problems. I can’t say why her bilirubin is so high – could the drain be clogged inside? I hope they can figure it out quickly and relieve the jaundice.
best wishes,
Lisalisa
SpectatorI hope the doctors can do something to address your mother’s immediate needs for pain meds, nausea, and bloating. I know how awful that can be.
Best wishes.

SpectatorLainy,
Glad to hear your good news. Much love continuing your way for you and Teddy.lisa
SpectatorOf course we will send tons of thoughts and prayers to our brave Kris and her fantastic sidekick Hans. Blessings to you, your family, and your kitties and to the surgeons. May we finally see the successful outcome we are looking for.
lisa
SpectatorI wouldn’t disregard palliative care. Stents work wonderfully for me to make me comfortable and relieve the jaundice. Chemo has also worked to prolong my life without major side effects for the most part. The key would be to keep your mom comfortable as possible, I think.

SpectatorI hallucinated on morphine, too. I thought the walls were crawling with a red, muscle-like fibery substance. I had double and triple vision. Bad dreams, too. I didn’t say anything because I was afraid people would think I was nuts.
As soon as they took me off morphine it went away.

SpectatorI have had a port-o-cath for two years. It makes blood draws and other access, like for CT scans, relatively painless. It draws blood every time and is really convenient for both me and the nurses. Because it is under the skin, you can still bathe normally.
lisa
SpectatorI think any pain should be checked out. With this type of cancer, you never know, and better safe than sorry.

SpectatorI’m glad to hear the good news on the Therasphere treatments and not so glad to hear your other news. I was on Cisplatin for a while and did not like it. Gemzar is not so bad.
Have a great vacation with your wife!
God bless,
Lisalisa
SpectatorFrom her Facebook Status as of today:
Kris Jurgens is doing reasonably well, and going for short walks in the hospital corridors, and on paracetamol rather than morphine. So far so good!
We’re still praying for you, Kris!

SpectatorMarion, I actually found the paragraph that reference this. I think that it is worthy to fight. I am going to write my congressman about this. To me it looks like a “timely manner” would be before the expriation of the 18 month initial period. Here is the relevant paragraph:
Disability extension of 18 month period of continuation coverage
If you or any other qualified beneficiary in your family who I receiving 18 months of continuation coverage is determined by the Social Security Administration to be disabled and you notify Ceridian in writing in a timely fashion, you and your entire family may be entitled to receive an additional 11 months of COBRA continuation coverage for a total maximum of 29 months. The disability would have to have started at some time before the 60th day of COBRA continuation coverage and must last at least until the end of the 18 month period of continuation coverage. The qualified beneficiary must provide the written determination of disability from the Social Security Administration to Ceridian within 60 days of the latest of the date of the disability determination by the Social Security Administration, the date of the initial qualifying event or the benefit termination date due to the initial qualifying event; and prior to the end of the 18 month COBRA continuation period. You will be required to pay up to 150 percent o the group rate during the 11 month extension. If the qualified beneficiary is determined by the Social Security Administration to no longer be disabled, you must notify Ceridian of that fact within 30 days after Social Security
