ModeratorDear Christian,
I am also so very sorry to hear about your mum’s passing and what a struggle you’ve had for the last weeks. Your posts conveyed how much you loved her and I’m sure she was appreciative of all you did for her.
I regret that your family had to lose her to this disease, but please know that we are here for you and I hope in time, happy memories will give you comfort.
Take care of yourself,

ModeratorDuke,
Agree- it’s a “hardship” that we are so lucky to have and we are in a great location for the short getaways . If needed, I could do LWOP, but when traveling, the money seems to disappear as well as the vacation time: ) Next trip is a full week in Cape Cod; then we stay put and let the bank account and vacation time build back up. The folks live 3 miles from us so we can have the quality time here on the deck as well.

ModeratorDear Kevin,
Thank you for the update. I wish it could have been better, and will keep our my fingers crossed that the Gem/Cis works to keep it at bay. Although we all have second guessed ourselves at times, and feel pressure since it’s our loved ones lives and well-being, this is a disease where patients can have very different results. Please always remember that you are doing everything possible to help you Mum; and I’m sure she is grateful for your loving support.
Take care of yourself too,
Catherine

ModeratorGood morning,
Another welcome. We all will be here for you and looking forward to hearing great results after the round of chemo. I agree with Lainy that if you can learn as much as possible, it can only help in moving forward. It is very important to have doctors familiar with CC, and also very beneficial to get second opinions. In addition to having members who were able to have surgery after chemo, we also have some who were told they were inoperable, but on a second opinion found a surgeon who said yes.
I also sorry to hear that already you’ve had such challenges with the stent and infection. I wish you the best in the future.

ModeratorKris,
What wonderful news!!! I could do without chocolate, but salt/potato chips would be VERY difficult.
I think this board is so important since people like you and my Mom are still alive and doing great (even if legs are swollen). I think it’s been a while, but I loved your post regarding the need to have to rethink the need for money in retirement. For me it was taking lots of vacations during the year that Mom was told she had left. Now I’m almost out of vacation time and Mom is still going strong.
So happy for you!

ModeratorDear Heidy,
Unfortunately I have no firsthand knowledge, but “googling” found below:
The American Cancer Society strongly urges cancer patients not to use the Hoxsey treatment. No sound scientific evidence exists to support its safety or effectiveness.
https://www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/integrative-medicine/herbs/hoxsey-herbal-therapy.
I think Sloan Kettering is one of the leaders in CC, so for my mother, I would tend to believe. However, so many unknowns with CC that I hope if anyone with better knowledge or experience can step forward.
Question- were the 2 ONC you went to familiar with CC? Even in Maryland with top notch hospitals, we have had doctors without much experience in cholangiocarcinoma.
I am sorry your family is at this point, and wish you the best,

ModeratorMarion,
So great to see how Eric’s hometown is stepping up to honor him and support the cause. I read his book a few months ago and would highly recommend it to all. He was a very special man with a great family.
Thank you,
