February 3, 2011 at 12:17 am in reply to: New To Site- Is Anyone Treating CC With Alternative Therapies? #47297peonyMemberHi Nancy, My husband (47) is also stage IV with mets to the liver and spine (and possibly lung). He is on the same chemo regimen of gem/cis. Next week will be his first pet scan since diagnosis. I also asked about a naturopathic and our onc wanted to wait until after the initial pet scan and would then make a recommendation. I gave him a list of what Andy and Linda (from this site) suggested and is working for him. I would love if you would list out what your giving Doug.
Great news and I wish you all the best with the treatment plan.Peony
peonyMemberCongratulation Tom and Ben. What GREAT news. My husband is also on the same gem/cis and due for his scan in Feb. I’m hoping for a similar outcome.
It’s amazing to me that Ben is able to still go to the gym etc. My husband (47) was also very active and went to the gym 3-5 times a week but doesn’t not seem able to do much now. I read him your posts all the time to help motivate and encourage him.
Keep us informed and best to you both.peonyMemberHi Mydad,
Your dads case sounds similar to my husbands. he also is inoperable because of mets to the spine and lungs. They were also concerned that the tumors were compressing the spinal cord and were considering back surgery initially but it was ok. Docs decided chemo was the way to go for him to try to shrink the tumors. He is now on gemzar and cisplatin and I’m hoping eventually he will be eligible for surgery. Pet scan in Feb will show if the tumors have shrunk. Best of luck with your dad and keep us informed.
peonyMemberMel,
My husband also had very bad nausea and heart burn, not sure that is what Barry is experiencing. But family members in the medical field suggested he ask the Onc for compazine and /or amends. They have worked really well for him.
Good luck, and sending you best wishes for a good outcome.peonyMemberHi Ashley, great news for your mom and you. What kind of chemo was she on?
peonyMemberHi Mel, welcome to the site. I’m new here as well. My husband is also on Gem/Cis. He started about a week before your guy. Similar symptoms and no jaundice or stents. Also inoperable because of mets to the bone and Stage IV. However I’m still going to push for a second opinon regarding surgery after the first pet scan. We want to pursue natropathic medicine but the onc has asked us to wait to see how the chemo is working so there is no confusion between results from 2 types of treatments.
Stay strong fellow caregiver. They need us now more than ever.Best

peonyMemberHi Lily, what great news. I’m so happy for you and your family. As you said before, we are on similar paths so I’m hoping that my husband news is the same as your moms when he has his PET soon.

peonyMemberHi Nancy,
Thank you for sharing your story. I know of Dr. Schwartz. He was also recommended to us. He has a great reputation.
Keep fighting. Your in my thoughts and prayers. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.Best.
peonyMemberHi Lily,
We do seem to be on the same path. Good luck with your mothers PET scan next week. Please update us with the outcome. So far my hub is doing OK. Some side effects and a little pain but we are hoping the tumors have shrunk. He is only 47. Although a diagnosis of cancer at any age is devastating. Yes, lets stay in touch . It’s great to have the support.
Best to you and your family.
peonyMemberHi Kim,
Yes, we have “spoken” before. We have not contacted Dr. Kato yet . We decided to wait until the PET scan in January. We’re hoping that the tumors are shrinking and want to give this a chance for now. Thanks for your offer
of contact, I may just take you up on that !!!peonyMemberThank you all for your kind words of support. I’ve been reading the posts for quite awhile and am so happy to have found this website. My husband won’t join and doesn’t want to read anything – which is so unlike him. But I do understand. So I’ll be asking the questions and doing the research for him (and me). We are so devastated by this diagnosis. It seems like 1 day he was fine and healthy and working and the next he is ill and getting chemo. He is so depressed and didn’t even want to fight the battle but he is doing it for me. Now he feels like he can beat this and I’m so scared of a setback and what it might do to him, emotionally. I say 1 day at a time and he says he can’t not think of the future or no future.
Sorry for rambling, I think I need to find a local support group as well otherwise I will be on here writing everyday for hours at a time.
Thanks for listening. -
