Thank you Marions. I will print those articles to read and provide copies to my family.
rankMemberThanks all. This is a really tough time. I’m at the hospital right now with him waiting for the oncologist. Our hope is he get released today. He continues to run a fever that apparently is being caused by the tumor. Within the next few days we will be relocating them to be closer to family (Dallas) so that mom doesn’t have to do this alone.
He says his stool is black. He’s not nauseated and is eating extremely well. He’s weak and just plain doesn’t feel well. His stomach is very big…so big he looks pregnant. There is no fluid so it must be the tumor.
Thanks for the insights. Joyce, I’ve read those earlier posts and collected them all and printed so that my mom could read what may be coming. Jeff, thank you for your prayers. I pray for everyone on this sight daily.

rankMemberThanks Jeff, I’m also going to look into this.
rankMemberThanks Iris, I’ll try other websites. It’s just funny that Amazon says it’s not out till September.
rankMemberMy father was seen by Dr Vauthey and he was not very encouraging. In fact my parents left that appointment very depressed. I got the impression he was quite conservative. I do know of another patient who used Dr Vauthey for colon cancer surgery and he had a very postive experience. Good luck to you. Another surgeon at St Luke’s is Dr Fisher and he was very kind, and gave it his all to support the patient and family. He was very involved. I would recommend him to anyone.
Good luckrankMemberirenea,
Based on everything I’ve read your best chances of survival and extending your life is to have to have surgery. If surgery was an option for my dad we would be jumping all over it.
Other with personal experience I’m sure will be chiming in.
I Pray for peace with whatever decision you make.rankMemberWow, I’m am shocked that there were no symptoms in the abdomen, bilirubin, itching, jaundice … all those symptoms you hear about with this disease. How shocking it must have been for you to have gone from a sever migraine to such an advance stage of cancer. It just goes to show that you know your body better than any doctor and that one should never give up if something doesn’t seem right.
My heart goes out to the young daughter. It sounds like you are there to help her and you can be a comfort to each other.
May you find comfort and with family and friends. God BlessrankMemberhoustonian76,
I am so sorry to hear that your dad passed away. I can only imagine your pain. How fortunate that you had the opportunity to spend so much time with him before he passed. I also have my father suffering with this disease and it scares me to death. The pain is unbearable.
May God bless you and your family and may you feel his loving comfort.rankMemberMy dad had terrible itching too and finally got relief when they put the stents in. It took 3 stents to finally get rid of the itching and get the bile flowing properly. No more itching since Jan 08.
rankMemberI did some research on this earlier this year and it sounded interesting and scary. I would be interested in learning if anyone has tried it or knows of someone who has.
rankMemberLisa, my condolescences on your loss. It is devasting. My prayer is that with sites like this that we will eventually have a cure for this awful disease. My God bless you and your family and provide you with the strength to deal with your sadness
rankMemberAlice, John sounds like such a trooper and with such a desire it’s bound to work for him. I will keep you in my prayers. I’ve seen the devasting fatigue and I felt awfully helpless.
God BlessrankMemberIris, where did you get the book Anticancer? I’ve looked on Amazon and it says it’s not due out till Sept 08
rankMemberPatti, my father is currently taking Zoloft and Xanax to help with the depression and anxiety. There is a significant difference in his mood on the days he doesn’t take it. His dr has changed the schedule of the medication to make it a regular daily dose as opposed to as needed. It has made a difference and I would recommend it if just to take the edge off and be able to think more clearly.
rankMemberI also contacted Dr Canady for my dad. Sent him all the records. Dr Canady said that he thought my dad was a candidate for surgery. At that time we were waiting on the results of he latest CT scansafter treatment of 5-FU and radiation. Dr Canady said he would call me to discuss further but he never did. This was in April. We got the CT scan and it appeared that the cancer had gotten bigger. I was afraid after all the negative press about Dr Canady and am afraid to take chances with my dad’s health. So I didn’t pursue any futher. He’s now undergoing 7-8 wks of Gemzar. We’ll see how that goes and decide what to do from there.
