Oh no, Celoi – I never wanted to see this post in this forum. My heart breaks for you.

It is, however, wonderful to hear he was surrounded by such love. I hope the peace was felt by all. You and your family are in my prayers.

    Dear Katia and Silvia,

I really hoped that your absense meant good news. I am so saddened to hear that your dad passed away. I’m at an absolute loss for words. I just wish that we could all hug you both, and provide as much support as you need. You’re so right – 3 months is too short to even process what has happened. There should be so much more time…

    Rae –

My heart goes out to you. I’ve lost many loved ones in my life, and I’m not sure I could handle losing my daddy to this cancer. I wish I could give you a hug and just make the awful disease go away.

I think you’ll find many on these boards want to know what to expect. And for the same reasons you’ve mentioned above, I think you’ll find many people refrain from sharing their experiences. Perhaps if you clearly title your message so that people know what to expect when they open it, that maybe some of the community would understand what they are about to see and can elect whether or not they wish to read the message?

    Varun,

Which biological therapy is the oncologist suggesting? There has been some evidence that combining Avastin with chemo agents makes the chemo agents more effective in cancers like colon and pancreatic. I believe several members of this community have witnessed similar benefits when adding Avastin to their chemo regime for cholangio. (althought I’m not immediately aware of a study indicating the same) Generally, chemotherapy alone keeps the tumors at bay (shrinking and/or stopping growth for a time). However, eventually the tumors may build up an “immunity” against the chemo agents and start growing again. That’s when the oncologist would switch the patient to another chemo regime to see if they can find something else that will work for a time.

My heart goes out to you and your mom. I’m glad that she’s able to find relief from her symptoms.

    Kris,

They recommended Johanna Bendell at Duke. Here is her profile: http://www.dukehealth.org/physicians/50A56ECB64DB79838525706D0049061F

I hope you are having a good visit with your family.

devoncat – I apologize, as I think you mentioned this in another thread, but how long will you be in the Carolinas? I shot an email out to some of our contacts, but I don’t know how quickly I will get a response in light of the holiday.

bosco – Here was the recommendation:

    Dr. Michael Kolodziej
    317 South Manning Blvd
    Albany, NY 12208

I hope that helps! (and is someone different than who your sister is currently seeing!)

bosco – I don’t know of one in Albany, NY, but I will check with our contacts to see if they know of a good one. It looks like you’re right in the middle of Sloan Kettering and Dana Farber…neither one appears close enough to be practical, although both have some great options for oncologists. I’ll get back with you ASAP.
