I’m also curious as to how she got surgery–both drs we talked to said
that once it’s left the liver, surgery is not ever an option. Was your dr willing to take a risk? (sorry I’m late to your whole “front
story”…I’ve mostly been around for the very sad ending. )we keep asking about this and they all keep saying kyle will never be
a candidate for surgery because the cancer has left the liver.so i’m confused why some docs do this and some don’t?
that’s just a curiosity question mostly. Thanks~

Thanks Pam for your kind words
… I probably shouldn’t even have asked this.
I just wanted to know if it had ever been done.
thebompie4Memberi think that some people DO have “normal” tumor markers and some don’t.
The ONE THING i’ve found with this cancer is that it sure doesn’t seem
to be a very predictable one. So many people have SO many different
things going on, and reactions and responses etc etc.I know I’ve asked about the Ca 19-9 before and they (the Drs) only use
it as a “guide”.My husband (who has Stage 4) has only ever had SLIGHTLY high numbers–so I wouldn’t put “all your eggs in one basket” so to speak by basing solely on
those numbers.Hope that helps
Dorienthebompie4MemberI am ALWAYS skeptical of things like this…
IF it was a “cure” for cancer–wouldn’t people be using it all the time
and being cured? Not sure it would hurt to add to the “fight”–but the skeptic in me
always thinks IF there was a “cure all” for this darn disease–people
would be doing the “cure” and there would be no more cancer.thebompie4Memberso sorry to hear of your loss.
thebompie4Membersending love your way.
thank you for sharing with us in your most vulnerable time.

thebompie4Memberwelcome–so sorry to hear about your husband (my 44 yr old husband
was diagnosed with stage 4 in march)–it’s a tough lonely battle
you are right!!he also is not eligible for surgery (metas. to lungs and lymphs)…
so we battle forward with chemo–he has had a good good response
so far and we will keep plugging forward.hugs to you from Utah.
Dorienthebompie4MemberYAY for shrinkage and “AMEN” on the highs and lows of this disease!
We are mtg with the Dr today to get results of my husbands 2nd PET scan.
(he just finished his 2nd FULL round *8 weeks* of chemo since diagnosis
in March of this yr.)Dorien

thebompie4Memberalso the fact that surgery is even an OPTION for you guys?
HUGE and wonderful! very very good news!
thebompie4MemberWelcome Heather..
my husband has ICC as well–he’s 44 and has never been sick a day in life
besides having a cold (or two). His has gone to lymph nodes (two-local) and lungs so he is NOT
a candidate for surgery. (He’s Stage 4).BUT he’s a fighter and has responded well to the Gem/Cis chemo
regimen so far…Best wishes with all that lies (lays?) ahead….
Dorien
thebompie4MemberI’m with you on being a realist…that’s for sure!
My husband has Stage 4 as well (he’s 44 and i thought THAT was young!)
He was healthy as a horse with hardly even a cold in his entire life.Best wishes with everything…I have no advice–seems each person
has their very own journey.I suspect yours will not go down without a HUGE fight!
and that’s GREAT!(and right? who knew?? Bile Duct Cancer?? seriously!)
That’s what we said too.thebompie4Memberso sorry for your loss….
thebompie4Memberbest wishes
