Should I get a Second Opinion?
Home / Blog / [wpbb post:title]
Mike Shane Memorial Fund (MSMF) just recently turned one! In the past year MSMF has helped 7 cholangiocarcinoma patients get a second opinion. All donations they receive go to second opinions. Currently they are working with Cleveland Clinic, USFC Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. These three locations give patients options for different locations to get remote second opinions. Getting a second opinion is EASY. There are only 3 criteria to qualify.
- You must have a primary diagnosis of Cholangiocarcinoma
- You must be a US citizen
- You can’t be a current patient in a hospital
You can visit mikeshanefund.org and click on the “apply for grant” button. Once you fill out the form, MSMF will make sure you meet the basic eligibility requirements that are listed above. If you do, they will connect you with their medical partners for an initial case review. Once approved their medical partners will collect your complete medical information and give it to the doctor who will review your diagnosis (without having to travel).
The Doctors that will provide your second opinion will be familiar with cholangiocarcinoma. In addition, your doctor will provide a written report with their opinion on your diagnosis at the end.
Remember no travel is involved and it’s all free for patients thanks to our generous donors!
