Ron and Lucille I feel so lucky to have found Dr. Schwartz and u r right they will e-mail back and quickly, they are also pretty good at returning phone calls. Thankfully I only had to call once after my surgery and my call was returned within the hour. It’s very comforting to know I’am in such good hands. Hats off to Dr. Schwartz and staff!

I too have to chime in on the wonderful Dr.Myron Schwartz at Mt. Sinai—I was told by another major NYC cancer center my intrahepatic CC had spread to my chest. I was not a candidate for surgery—-I had an internal stent placed after 3 attempts–I will always be grateful to Dr. George at MSKCC for his expertise and inserting the stent. However, I could not accept my prognosis I actually came on this website introduced myself and my angel Marc answered my post and suggested 2nd opinion by Dr. Schwartz. I had an appt with him within 3 days brought all of my scans and any relevant medical info with me. He reviewed all alf my scans came in my room took my hand and said I don’t think your cancer has spread, will u have a CT to confirm—-of course I ran down to radiology and had one. I received an e-mail from Dr. Schwartz that day I live in Jersey so he said he would review and let me know results and if we could proceed with surgery. After much pacing I ran up to the computer room and there was his e-mail as promised and yes he could operate and felt it would be a success. Last Jan 19 I had removal of right lobe, caudate lobe and resection. I had 6 month adjuvant chemo at Bruckner Oncology who Dr. Schwartz recommended. Next week I will celebrate my other birthday the day I was able to have surgery that has given me hope and confidence that I will do my best to beat this disease every day of my life and I will raise awareness so, much needed research can be done. Agreed the doctors, nurses, staff r all fantastic at Mt Sinai—but, Dr Schwartz he’s the man! It’s been 1 year and I have been cancer free I will have my next scan on Feb 4th and see my hero after that. Best of luck to u—You have found a wonderful website that will supply you with lots of info and support.

Mr. J—First of all a very Happy Birthday to you!! Hoping that you will get some answers to all of your questions. I’m a 1 year survivor of intrahepatic CC I did have surgery—-but, I was told by my first surgeon and oncologist that surgery was not an option. I went for a 2nd opinion and bingo that surgeon felt I was a candidate and did operate. If u feel u r not getting the best medical care please go for a second opinion had I not gone for mine I may not be cancer free today. My thoughts and prayers will be with you.

Peony- I’am also an almost 1 year CC survivor I was told by a very reputable NY Hospital for cancer that I was not a candidate for surgery. I had been stented internally and it took 3 times before thay were able to accomplish this. I will be always grateful to the Dr. who was able to stent me. I was then told maybe the cancer had spread to my stomach so off I went for a laparoscopy came back negative. After that I was told last step before surgery was a PET scan I had that right before Thanksgiving of last year the news was not good they told me cancer had spread to my chest – chemo only I would not be re-evaluated for surgery. This did not sit well with me I was 51 and in wonderful health until my diagnosis. I reached out on this website and was answered by a man named Marc whose mother had the same disease. He saved my life he gave me the name of Dr. Myron Schwartz at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NY. I called his office they gave me an appt within 3 days! He reviewed my scans and told me he didn’t think the cancer had spread would I be willing to have a CT scan. He thought the uptake on PET was from stenting procedures. He was absolutely right I had surgery Jan. 19 2010 I had no post-op complications. Although he is affiliated with Mt Sinai he recommended I receive my chemotherapy from Bruckner Oncology 170 William St. 4B New York, NY 212-228-4800 they were wonderful and have much experience with CC. I also live in NJ in Phillipsburg so sometime the trip would take an hour and a half or up to 2 and a half hours all in all it was worth every minute. I wish u and your husband the best. Explore every avenue. I will keep u both in my thoughts and prayers.

Randi – Just know everything is going to be fine with your lab work! I totally understand the anxiety about this. I have told my family many times being off of chemo is like a double edged sword I’m so thankful I don’t have to have chemo anymore but, at the same time I’m wondering what’s going on in there? Agreed never second guess any of your decisions and as far as Lainy and everyone else on this website go all are inspirations. so much strength and hope on this site. I know u will be chiming in with more good news soon. Nancy

Diane-Wishing u only the best of news when u have your f/u CT scan. It is a day to day mental struggle with CC. Some days I don’t think about it at all and then as u said there r other days when it is the only thing u can think of! So good u were busy planning your daughters wedding after surgery always a happy and blessed event. I was diagnosed just 5 days before my son got married. I’m the yellow one in the wedding pics. lol Yes-NJ gets a bad rap and is the butt of alot of jokes but, I’ve been a Jersey Girl for all my 52 years and don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. It really is a beautiful state we have it all! Continued good health to u and as always my thoughts and prayers r with all on this site Nancy

Floridamom- I’m wondering if I have ever seen u at Dr. Bruckners office I had a successful resection at Mt. Sinai with Dr. Myron Schwartz who is to say the least tremendously talented and wonderful in Jan 10. In March of this year I started 6 months adjuvant chemo with those same cocktails as u I finished them on Aug 18th. Had an appointment with Dr. Schwatz for my 9 month follow up CT end of Oct. all clear. I still go to Dr appointments at Bruckner and have my port flushed by Ling she was my chemo nurse and just such a sweetheart in fact everyone at Bruckner is wonderful. Best of luck to u. P.S. It’s alot easier for me to get to NY as I live in NJ but, I have met people like u who traveled a great distance to be at Bruckner.

My surgeon for my resection was:
Myron Schwartz MD-He is part of Surgical Oncology Associate at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NYC. There are 4 surgeons in this group all with experience in CC and liver transplantation and resections.
