Kris-i loved that car analogy. Though I do the driving, Dave really is in the driver’s seat and we so often see this trip differently. Thanks for reigning in my perspective.

Hi Jo-my husband Dave was chachexic during chemo and he used a product called Prosure. It is like ensure but with a lot of omega 3’s and other highly regarded ingredients. The only place we could find it was on-line at amazon.com. He bought it by the case which was cheaper and he gained 5 lbs the first week. Hope it will help your sister. Patrice

Hi Ron- my Dave was on Gemzar initially for his many liver tumors and it did shink them and he was off chemo for 5 months. they are now growing again and we are off to the Cancer Treatment Center of America to see what they have to offer.
Best to you on this go-round. You will be in our thoughts.

Best to you Jeff. You are in our hearts. Dave has had some growth in the smaller tumors he has in his liver and we are going to go to the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Philadelphia in about 10 days to see if they have anything different to offer. So, maybe Dave will be starting on something new soon too. I so hope that it helps both of you.

Hi Kris-Dave doesn’t come on this site. I share with him some stories, but for the most part he only wants good news. I have to let him deal with this in whatever way is best for him. I keep coming as I find it supportive and try to believe I support others and that someday we will find a cure together.

sounds like it might be a Herpes virus. Sometimes when the immune system is diminished by chemo and stress. HSV can break out even if you never had it before. If it turns out to be that, there are several meds for treatment and they work quite well.

We have missed hearing from you Jeff. Glad things are stable and you sound as though you are feeling ok. I’m trying to get Dave to consider a vacation but he is on a roll with this IV vitamin C and feeling well so wants to keep up the 3x a week for another couple months. Take Care and keep in touch. Hi LTSO- The thing I notice most on this site is how similar all our struggles are. I don’t talk about it to anyone else, but I am often consumed by the fact that Dave probably will not be here for my retirement. He is 64 and 10 years older than me. All I want to do is quit work and be with him but all we have is my income since he no longer works and most of his disability payment goes to pay medical bills. I wish I could find a way to stop thinking about next year or five years from now and just live each day. Even though I tell people that is what I am doing, it really isn’t. Sending you all the best and hoping you and your husband keep up the fight and that he will be around for a long time for your little boy and you. Patrice

Reading all your posts makes me so glad to be a member of this supportive family at CCO. Nice to “meet” you Colleen. My Dave was also diagnosed in late March. He had chemotherapy only for 4 months but then almost died of a cardiac problem ( in fact I breathed life back into him) and he opted to stop the chemo and try some alternative treatments including IV vitamin C. He is feeling much better and has gained some weight and his many liver tumors had gotten smaller on the last CT scan. He is do for another scan in a couple weeks. Best of luck to you and your husband. It sounds like progress so far and as others have said attitude really counts. My Dave doesn’t read anything about CC either, so I guess we really have a spouses club going here! You both will be added to our lists of people in our daily thoughts. Patrice

Puggle-my husband Dave had 5 treatments of Gemzar and oxciliplatin and is now doing IV vitamin C at the local holistic health center, Prosure nutritional supplement which is high in Omega 3 and calories, and pomegranite capsules. He is feeling much better and we will know if the vit C is doing anything at his next CT scan in a couple weeks. Keep searching for answers. Patrice
